Did you know that Broadway hair and wig designers don't have a category in the Tony awards? The biggest stage for live theater, with something that is so important to a production, and these talented designers are left out of the party.
Jeffrey Kare writes: "This year, hair and wig designer Nikiya Mathis was honored with a special non-competitive Tony Award for her work on Jaja’s African Hair Braiding. Two-time Drama Desk Award-nominated wig, hair, and makeup designer J. Jared Janas has launched a petition urging the American Theatre Wing to recognize the contributions of wig & hair and makeup designers by introducing categories for these departments. The Oscars and the Primetime Emmys both honor makeup and hairstyling."
